HONORS AND AWARDS University Business Magazine and Higher One Honor NWTC as “Model of Efficiency” NWTC has received a national award for effciency for a project that has saved approximately $1 million. The NWTC Foundation received a $117,500 grant from the Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation to provide students in need with money to address unexpected expenses that might cause them to drop out. In each competition, students work against the clock and each other, proving their expertise in occupations like electronics, computer-aided drafting, precision machining, medical assisting and culinary arts. More than 5,500 students compete in 94 occupational and leadership skill areas at the national conference. Also competing from NWTC was Hector Frayre of Green Bay for CNC Milling, Matt Miller of Kewaunee for Diesel Equipment Technology, and Justin Gorges of Seymour for Welding. The Automated Manufacturing team of Michael Carncross of DePere, Rory Lade of Oconto, and Kevin Heimke of Lena, took first in their event, which included design engineering, CAD/CAM CNC Programming, and CNC Machining/setup. In total, six NWTC students and four advisors joined 15,000 other students, teachers and business partners for the week long trade, technical and leadership competition. “I have the opportunity to pay it forward, so when I look at the bigger vision of what we’re doing, it’s all worth it.” NWTC Team Wins Gold Medal at SkillsUSA Conference A group of three NWTC students won the Gold Medal for Automated Manufacturing at this year’s SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference, held June 23-27 in Kansas City, Mo. “Education changes a person’s life,” said Ms. As the Sturgeon Bay Campus Coordinator, she has made superior service to students the hallmark of her position. Tieman’s work on the Sturgeon Bay campus has been characterized by a commitment to student success and a passion for providing a highquality educational experience. Their endowment fund seeks to improve recognition and opportunities for staff at the College. This award is part of an NWTC Educational Foundation endowment fund established by Lon and Carol Mishler. HONORS AND AWARDS Cheryl Tieman Awarded 2012 Mishler Outstanding Staff Award For her superior service to students, excellence in teamwork, individual achievement and commitment to NWTC, Cheryl Tieman has been honored with the 2012 Mishler Outstanding Staff Award.
